The crew down at Bangalow’s Common People Brewing Co. are taking their iconic winter seasonal and plunging it straight into the wood with this limited, wax-sealed vintage of Barrel Aged Moonless Midnight. Named after the pitch black, treacherous waters around Cape Byron before its lighthouse was built, this elevated Milk Stout spent a long, slow slumber inside hand-selected whisky barrels from their distilling neighbors. It pours a deep, opaque obsidian with a dense, creamy mocha crown. On the nose, it hits you with a beautiful, warming aromatic payload of charred vanilla oak, rich tobacco, and single malt complexity. The palate is intensely full-bodied and velvety, layering luxurious dark chocolate and freshly brewed espresso over a silky lactose sweetness that perfectly balances the roasty depth. It is a masterclass in barrel-aged structure that acts like a big, boozy hug in a bottle.
