The creative minds at 27 South Brewing are writing their own rules with Fiction, an inventive and deeply aromatic stout infused with black sesame and Japanese matcha. Poured into the glass, it drops an opaque, pitch black liquid capped by a thick, mocha coloured foam. Upfront, the nose is treated to an intriguing contrast of earthy, nutty roasted black sesame layered against rich dark chocolate, toasted malt, and a subtle, herbal lift from fine matcha tea. On the palate, a smooth, full bodied malt base delivers deep coffee and cocoa notes before the savory nuttiness of the sesame and the crisp, umami tinged edge of the matcha roll in to balance the sweetness. Complex, velvety, and brilliantly unique.
