The cool climate wizards at Scorpo are serving up an absolute masterclass in restraint and elegance with their stunning Estate Shiraz. While the rest of the world might associate Aussie Shiraz with heavy, high-octane fruit bombs, this single-vineyard Mornington Peninsula release shows off the variety's beautifully poetic, northern Rhône-inspired side. On the nose, it hits you with a sublimely nuanced aromatic payload of fresh blueberries, dark brambles, and ripe plums, beautifully spiced with complex hints of clove and nutmeg. The palate is wonderfully delicate and medium-bodied, marrying fleshy mulberry fruit against a sophisticated, black tea coolness. Driving forward with a fine, mouth-watering line of natural acidity, it glides into an exceptionally clean, dry, and chalky tannin finish. It is an intensely savory, intellectual drop built perfectly for a slow-braised duck or pan-seared venison.
