The local legends at Newstead’s Range Brewing are pivoting from their trademark haze to deliver an absolute masterclass in crisp, dark brewing with Kuro. Inspired by classic Japanese dark lagers, this brilliantly executed drop offers the best of both worlds—all the dark, roasted complexity of a stouter style, but with the ultra-clean, snappy crushability of a traditional lager. It pours a deep, translucent mahogany-black in the glass with a tight, tan coloured crown. On the nose, it hits you with a highly expressive aromatic payload of light cacao, freshly toasted pumpernickel bread, and a delicate touch of herbal hops. The palate is beautifully light-bodied, clean, and exceptionally crisp, effortlessly layering soft dark chocolate and cold-brew coffee notes over a bone-dry, refreshing finish. It is a wonderfully elegant, highly sessionable beer engineered perfectly for grilled yakitori or fresh sushi.
